During the past 5 years, one of the most profound social effects of the Internet has been the democratization of media. Nowadays, anybody with a computer and an Internet connection is ready to start broadcasting to the whole world, for free. Online tools such as the well known Blogger (created by PyraLabs in 1999 and acquired by Google in 2003) make publishing on the Internet extremely easy and accessible to people with hardly any technical knowledge. For those with no interest in blogging, the world is still poised to hear their thoughts, likes and dislikes through powerful social media channels such as Facebool, Twitter and now Google Plus 1. The phenomenon of democratized media results in a landscape of millions of micro-media, most importantly in the following forms:

* Blogs
* Social Media (YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn…)
* Feeds (RSS, Alerts, News…)
* Podcasts

Combinations of these technologies are leading to a complete democratization of media. Individuals find themselves with the same possibilities as mayor newspapers, groups start weblogs that compete with global content distributors, and online radio stations emerge. The cost of broadcasting has never been so low. Everybody with a PC and an Internet connection can not only access all traditional media from all over the world, but also the micro-content added to the media landscape by individuals. Millions of people have evolved from being mere media consumers to being media producers as well.

How effective are mass media when we all have a medium of our own? It is very clear that traditional media outlets are losing their grip on their audiences. As a result, consumers will be extremely difficult to reach, as they will be scattered all over this landscape of micro-media. Instead of reading the mainstream local newspaper, they will read micro-content written by someone with the same interests they themselves have. For news, they will rely on RSS feeds/ Alerts and Google news or Yahoo Pipes from local and global news sources, directly to their RSS readers (they will click through to the newspapers website, but only if they find something interesting). In their cars, they will be listening to a podcast about a topic so specific that mainstream radio could never afford to spend time on it.

So where does this leave the small and large business owner? In desperate need of ME, someone who can guide, develop and implement cost effective web based advertising that integrates Social Media and search engine optimization to create a flawless, organic web presence.

You’ve likely seen it in Google’s search results and have recently started to notice it popping up other sites (especially thoughts that are particularly SEO focused) . So what is Google’s new Plus 1? Read on:

Primarily used as a way for users to like a page, article, post or URL, it is also a new Google method of tracking the relevance (from a social media perspective) of a site and its content. It’s like a recommendation or personal note from a friend that says “Hey check this out.”

Plus one is Google’s answer to the “Like” button or Twitter’s “Follow” button and it will basically count as an ‘up’ vote when somebody clicks the +1 google icon next to a search result or in GMail. But what does the Google +1 do to SEO, and how is it advised to be used in SEO campaigns?

The one thing we do know for sure is that the results from Google +1 are being used directly in the Google search results algorithm. But how we use this information is something we are still learning. Fortunately we can make a few simple assumptions to help use Google +1 effectively right now.

To start with, while we do not currently know what Google’s anti-spam measures are for Google +1, it is probably safe to assume they have them in place. So my first piece of advice would be Do Not Spam. Maybe +1 a few of your posts, but do not go overboard, let these build naturally. If you have a community, even a small one, you can encourage them to +1 your post.

Google released the code for Google +1 buttons on websites early last month. Get the button installed on your site (its easy to do) by clicking here for the Google + 1 Code of This will allow you to garner +1 votes much more quickly. It will also make it much more likely that organic search visitors will vote up your site.

Note: Google +1 uses Google accounts, so you must be logged in to plus anything. It should also be noted that there is a higher chance of getting +1 vote than Stumbles, Diggs, search results (or any social media sites

When you +1 something it will appear to your friends underneath search results, so build up those Google Contacts, it means that more people are more likely to find what you +1, not to mention the inherit SEO benefits to this new Google revelation.

You may be wondering to yourself, how do I figure out my conversion rate? This article will answer that question. Lots of people are talking about conversion rates these days. Specifically how to improve them….Which is why you are on our site. The reasons are easy to understand… increasing your conversion rate will result in high sales, and we all love higher sales, cause they equal profit (insert a big smile and dollar sign eyes), without spending any additional money on marketing!

So, what are conversion rates?

Your conversion rate is a ratio of prospects to completed transactions (conversions.) How you define a completed transaction will be specific to your offer. Many companies use the internet to generate leads. In this case, the transaction of interest is a completed lead form.

A plain example would be: You are running a newsletter sign up form. In this case, a conversion would be when an individual signed up for said newsletter. Most businesses will actually be interested in measuring, calculating, and improving several different conversion rates.

How do I measure my conversion rate?

To measure your conversion rate, you will need to use a tracking application. There are many different ones available on the market, and you can also use a standard log analysis package.

In addition to helping you improve your conversion rate through testing, the Vertster tool includes a powerful conversion rate tracking system.

How do I calculate my conversion rate?

Once you have set up your tracking system, and assembled the data, you will need to calculate your rate. This is a simple formula:

Total Conversions/Total Views X 100 = Conversion Rate

Here are some examples, of how you could compute conversion rates for different scenarios and transaction types:

Lead Generation Conversion Rate:

Number of Lead forms filled out/Traffic on Landing Page X 100 = Conversion Rate

Website Lead Conversion Rate:

Number of lead forms filled out/Total Traffic on Home Page X 100 = Conversion Rate

Website Sales Conversion Rate:

Number of Sales/Number of Visitors X 100 = Conversion Rate

Below is great article detailing the advantages of social media and how search engines like Google are placing a higher priority on a companies ability to perform social networking as a part of their overall online presence. Should you have any questions on this can be properly applied to your niche. Contact us here. Thank you.

With nearly 50% of consumers reporting thatboth search and social media influence purchases, Social Media and SEO are hot topics for most online marketing firms. But there’s a world of difference between the notions of social dominance, super-powered with search ubiquity and the ability to successfully implement – especially in large companies.

One of the most common issues is that social media efforts themselves are often uncoordinated activities, let alone working in sync with search engine optimization. Additionally, many online marketing consultants are accustomed to Social Media or SEOprojects for small and medium sized businesses, which is a very different thing than working with a large or complex organization. Being prepared to adapt independent and coordinated social media and SEO processes requires a unique combination of organizational finesse, adaptability and subject matter expertise.

Enterprise marketing initiatives typically involve multiple stakeholders, layers of approval and messaging guidelines that can stifle ambitious social content optimization and promotion.

However, it is possible to make significant progress in a reasonable amount of time with the right mix of planning, communication and expertise. Once departments or business units have an understanding of common and individual goals, confidence in allocating resources, adjusting processes, training, building out reporting and forecasting potential outcomes can open up a wide range of Social SEO opportunities. The key is to understand the nature of the business and how a coordinated social media and SEO effort can help the company solve problems and achieve goals.

To that end, here are 5 Tips to Empower Enterprise Social Media SEO:

1.	Education

There is no substitute for an informed online marketing client, especially when it comes to coordinated Social Media & Content Optimization for Search. It’s essential that key contacts understand how today’s “Google Panda” and social-influenced SEO works and what the potential business benefits are to the organization.

Companies create content to communicate with the outside world for a variety of reasons: far beyond sales and marketing purposes. Improving the relevant “findability” of content, both on and off the corporate sites, via search and social discovery across departments (Public Relations, Human Resources, Customer Service, Investor Relations, Community Relations, etc) can improve reach and desired outcomes. That lift in reach and engagement for other corporate content producers can help motivate those involved outside of marketing to execute social SEO best practices.

2.	Advocates

With nearly 1 in every 6 minutes spent online on a social network and Facebook reportingover 750 million users, there are social media advocates and super users in every organization. Most companies have implemented some kind of SEO effort as well.

To gain support, it’s important that online marketers leverage individuals that have demonstrated a personal and/or profession interest in social media and are excited about the program to help “sell” the benefits throughout the organization. Tapping into SEO advocates works the same way. As evangelists for corporate site optimization and social media engagement, client side team members can use various tools to spread the “Social SEO” message, whether it is progress reports, internal update meetings or brown bag training sessions.

3.	Results

Suggesting that a large corporation implement overall coordinated Social & SEO is often unrealistic, so such efforts can start by identifying high impact areas of opportunity. Is there a fledgling blog that’s showing promise but could boost traffic with basic SEO? Or are there social networks building relationships that could be involved with sharing links to relevant corporate website content? Links & social sharing can boost search visibility.

Showing results at multiple stages in the program with careful attention to those areas of focus for respective decision makers, can help motivate support for people and resources. Imaging being able to improve traffic to a blog pet project for a Marketing VP by 50% though smart SEO & social sharing. Success inspires more success (and support for expansion).

Another example could involve shared search & social keyword glossaries from the Marketing team that have helped improve online visibility for PR, Job Listings or Customer Support content for one business or division. That exercise can help apply updated processes for other groups.

Coordination between social media community managers and marketers with SEO expertise is the frontline of Social SEO impact. There are numerous SEO opportunities for large web sites and off-site social participation. Showing progress will help create momentum and buy-in from others in the organization.

4.	Availability

Large scale Social SEO implementation can be daunting and involve many opportunities for outside subject matter expertise. Online Marketing consultants need to be available to client contacts in various mediums. For example, IM or text messaging so when he/she needs information during a meeting, questions can be answered quickly. GotoMeetings, training or support via conference call are also helpful in providing timely information for internal meetings and decision making.

Many Social & SEO engagements involve an audit and meetings at specified intervals – but little communication in between. Being available at opportune times supports your client side contact as they represent corporate Search and Social Media leadership, empowering them to get agency recommendations implemented.

5.	Content Creation & Curation

A Social Media & SEO Roadmap often requires agencies to provide assistance with implementation or support of internal training. Many large company social media marketing and SEO groups are understaffed or simply 100% allocated with current work. Wether it’s web pages, blog posts or social content like Tweets, be prepared to create content specifically for social media and optimization initiatives. The needs for the creation of content in such a scenario can include: presentations, newsletters, images and even training sessions.

Repurposing content, crowdsourcing and curation are also effective resources to fuel coordinated social media and search optimization. Curation can involve aggregation and annotation of industry news or it can be the repurposing of useful content from within the organization – from different departments or groups. If there’s content being created, it can be optimized and socialized for relevant improvements in discovery and engagement.

It takes considerable resources and talent to execute and manage a successful enterprise Social SEO project. Not many consultancies are prepared for the demands in communication, education and patience. It can also be a challenge to manage the billable time for the kind of support recommended here, so setting expectations and parameters up front is essential.

Large scale Social SEO takes an equal measure of search engine optimization and social media marketing smarts as it does the ability to navigate complex organizations. By empowering client side advocates with knowledge, tools and ongoing resources to promote Social SEO processes and results, large company social media optimization projects can see a better return on their agency investment.
